Little India in Bangkok

Pahurut calls to mind the thought of the colorful fabric market as it has always been regarded as Bangkok's largest fabric market. And, so, if you think fabrics, you think of Pahurut.

Pahurut Road was initially the private proper of Princess Pahurut Maneemai, King Rama V's daughter who was born of Somdej Phra Sri Bhatcharindra Borom Rachineenart. Her premature death at a tender of ten years old brought much sorrow to her bereaved parents. And a commemoration of her beloved daughter, the queen used her daughter's personal asset to finance the construction of a road close to Wang Burapha and called it Thanon Pahurut.

Today, Pahurut Road has turned into a major commercial center selling products pertaining to fabrics, including buttons, needles and thread and ready-to-wear apparels of Thai, Chinese and Sari styles.

Shops selling saris are especially abundant in the area. In addition to being recognized as a major fabric commercial market, it is also known as Little India where the Sikhs make their community. No doubt, apart from the various types of fabrics being available at Pahurut, it is also the center where a rich assortment of products is on offer, not to mention the restaurants and shops that sell Indian spices.
